Professor Mike Grocott

Mike Grocott is the Professor of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Southampton (UK) where he leads critical care research within the Southampton NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. He is the UK NIHR Clinical Research Network national specialty lead for Anaesthesia, Perioperative Medicine and Pain. He also serves as an adjunct professor of Anesthesiology at Duke University Medical Centre, NC.

Mike leads the Xtreme-Everest Oxygen Research Consortium, the Fit-4-Surgery research collaboration and was founding director of the NIAA Health Services Research Centre (2010-2016). He now chairs the UK National Adult Critical Care Data Group and the clinical reference group of the UK National Emergency Laparotomy Audit.
He is an elected council member of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, an elected board member of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine and President of the Critical Care Medicine section of the Royal Society of Medicine. He serves on the scientific advisory board of the American Society of Enhanced Recovery (ASER). He has authored/co-authored more than 200 published scientific papers and been awarded over £20 million in research funding.
