Professor Jeremy Powell-Tuck

Jeremy is Emeritus Professor of Clinical Nutrition at Barts and the London. He introduced, with John Lennard-Jones, the big bag approach to parenteral nutrition to the UK, and they were the first to send patients home on parenteral nutrition in this country.

Research interests have included studies of protein turnover in critical illness, the use of insulin to support artificial nutrition, and the role of glutamine in artificial nutrition. Current work is examining the place of selenium and glutamine in critical care.

He is past chair of BAPEN Medical, chair of the UKHPN Group and is currently co-ordinating a UK cross-society consensus on perioperative fluid therapy.
