Professor Can Ince PhD is a physiologist at the Academic Medical Center (AMC) of the University of Amsterdam. His chair in Clinical Physiology is dedicated to cardiovascular aspects of surgery and intensive care focused on clinical and fundamental aspects of circulation and oxygenation as applied to critical illness. He heads the department of Translational Physiology at that the AMC. The Department consists of a group of basic and clinical scientists doing laboratory and clinical research in sepsis, shock, resuscitation, blood transfusion, acute kidney injury and heart failure. Since 2007 he joined for 40% the Department of Intensive Care (head prof Jan Bakker) of the Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam as staff physiologist. He has a PhD in Immunology/Physiology and MSc and BSc degrees in Electrical and Electronic engineering. Dr. Ince is past president of the Dutch Physiological Society and of the International Society for Oxygen Transport to Tissue (ISOTT). He has authored more than two hundred papers and holds patents related to microcirculation technology.
